Overview

Who? This course is aimed at adults who wish to start on the noble journey of reading the Quran with correct tajweed. It is aimed at adults who have no previous experience of reading the Quran, or those who are unable to read fluently.

Prerequisites? No previous knowledge of Quranic recitation is required for this course.

Course Duration? 6 months.

Class Times? Classes will run three times a week in the evening. The duration of each class is 20 minutes.

Class Size? Limited to a maximum of 2 learners per class.

Fees? £7.50 per week. Scholarships are available, please inquire.

Learning Outcomes

Practice & Testing

Recognise letters of the Arabic language in singular and joint form.
Sound letters with correct point of articulation (makhaarij).
Read Qur'anic verses according to the basic rules of tajweed.
Read Qur'anic verses with medium fluency.

Practice & Testing

Practice: We expect learners to complete 15 minutes of out-of-class practice each day. An online app can be downloaded to facilitate these sessions.

Testing: The learner will be tested both on a daily basis in class and at the end of each level. These are informal tests to help the teacher and the learner assess progress.

COURSE CONTENT - THE DETAILS

Levels 1 & 2

Levels 3, 4 & 5

Level 1: This level teaches fluency in letter recognition (singular and joint form) of the Arabic language. This will be covered in lessons 1 to 3 of the text.
Level 2: This level will cover sounding of letters with correct point of articulation (makhaarij) for the three vowel types (fatha, damma, kasrah). In addition, the application of tanween, madd and leen will be taught. This will be covered in lessons 4 to 9 of the text.

Levels 3, 4 & 5

Level 3: This level focuses on the application of shaddah, sukoon and shaddah combined with madd. These topics will be covered in lessons 10 to 16 of the text.
Level 4: This level reviews all of the above concepts to further embed them into the learner’s long-term memory. This is done under the final lesson, lesson 17, to complete the text.
Level 5: This level eases the learner into reading from the Noble Qur'an. The last 10 surahs are recited with reference back to the text to ensure rules have been understood.
