Tajweed for Adults (AT111)

Overview

Who?  This course is aimed at adults who are able to read the Quran, but wish to improve the accuracy and fluency in recitation. It combines a simplified approach to theoretical concepts of tajweed with regular application in order to train participants in the correct method of recitation. 

Prerequisites?  Learners should have at least a medium fluency in reading verses of the Noble Quran. 

Course Duration? This course runs for 40 weeks and covers 6 levels. 

Class Times?  Classes will run three times a week in the evening. The duration of each class is 20 minutes.   

Class Size? Limited to a maximum of 2 learners per class.  Please note, theory classes will have more than 2 students. 

Fees?  £7.50 per week. Scholarships are available, please inquire.

  •  Sound letters with correct point of articulation (makhaarij).
  • Sound letters with correct characteristics (sifaat).
  • Understand how the recitation of certain letters change in particular circumstances.  
  • Understand and apply the rules of elongation (madd).
  • Understand how letters join (idghaam) and the basic rules of stopping (waqf).

  • Practice:  We expect learners to complete 15 minutes of out-of-class practice each day. An online app can be downloaded to facilitate these sessions. 


  • Testing:  The learner will be tested in each class and at the end of each level. These are informal tests to help the teacher and the learner assess progress.

 The week will start with a theoretical class for all students. The following two sessions of the week will then focus on applying what was covered in the theory class. The applied classes are limited to two learners per class so that the teacher has ample time to listen and help students to improve.
